Hawaiian Lomi Lomi :The Master Healers of Hawaii knew that there were special ways to release and unblock the powers of the body so that physical, mental, emotional and spiritual healing could take place more quickly and completely. Born in the Islands of the South Pacific, this unique bodywork is one of loving power and powerful love. With this subtle, yet powerful form of massage, it is not only a question of expertise, it is also a question of love. While technique is an important part of the massage and associated healing, much of the work is done by love, with the total focus of the practitioner on the client being deep and complete. Feeling love and compassion for the client, rather than treating them as an object to be 'fixed', allows for harmony to be created inside the body. This incorporates two of the main assumptions of Huna - everything seeks harmony and everything seeks love. Thus Lomilomi is also called 'loving hands' massage and works gently yet deeply into the muscles using continuous, flowing strokes, totally nurturing the body enabling the recipient to relax, give in and simply be.Flowing with total energy and combined with a very loving touch relaxes the entire being, initiating a 'letting go' of old beliefs, patterns and behaviors that no longer serve you and cause limitations.
The Hawaiians look at things in terms of energy flow, following the premise that an idea or belief can block energy flow as much as muscle tension can. Using body and energy work to help release the blockages, while at the same time giving the energy new direction and set new patterns . This results in mental clarity and physical release thereby allowing for powerful healing in yourself and your life, creating a new level of harmony and facilitating healing on many levels, levels we are often not aware of at the time.Touch is a forgotten language these days. When a Lomilomi practitioner touches the body of a person, it is with total respect and love. Using one of the principles of Huna - energy flows where attention goes, the masseur is totally focused on the clients body and being. It is more than simply touching the body, your being becomes one with the other, penetrating, making it soft and relaxing it at the deepest levels to restore balance and allow healing at the deepest levels of body, mind and spirit.
Lomilomi practitioners undertake training to develop and enhance their technique and skills. A deep understanding of the Huna philosophy, with skills in counsellings are also undertaken. They have usually undergone and experienced many levels of their own personal healing and life changes, enhancing their understanding of the healing process. Also known as the 'temple style' , this graceful in-depth bodywork is profoundly healing.
Deep tissue : Massage is the treatment and practice of soft tissue manipulation with physical, functional, and in some cases psychological purposes and goals. The word comes from the Frenchmassage "friction of kneading," possibly from Arabicmassa "to touch, feel, handle" or from Latinmassa "mass, dough". (In distinction the ancient Greek word for massage itself was anatripsis , and the Latin was friction.) An older etymology may even have been the Hebrew me-sakj "to anoint with oil." Massage involves acting on and manipulating the client's body with pressure (structured, unstructured, stationary, and/or moving), tension, motion, or vibration done manually or with mechanical aids. Target tissues may include muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, joints, or other connective tissue, as well as lymphatic vessels, and/or organs of the gastrointestinal system. Massage can be applied with the hands, fingers, elbows, forearm, and feet. There are over eighty different massage modalities. The most cited reasons for introducing massage have been client demand and perceived clinical effectiveness. In professional settings massage involves the client being treated while lying on a massage table, sitting in a massage chair, or lying on a mat on the floor. The massage subject may be fully or partly unclothed. Parts of the body may be covered with towels or sheets.
